Acupuncture for Pregnancy

You might not get sick when pregnant, but the reality is, it is likely. Remember this is nine months with a compromised immune system. Yes that's right, when you are pregnant, so that your body doesn't reject the embryo, it slacks off on immunity. So you need to take care of yourself.

Taking care of your body and health whilst pregnant might mean participating in new healthcare regimes and different exercises. When I was pregnant for the first time, I didn't do much exercise which was a  big mistake. I saw some of my friends working out right up until they gave birth and they honestly dropped their baby weight in a flash! It made me want to do things differently.

Yoga and pilates are great for pregnancy and keeping your body in form for post pregnancy and of course for labour. If you are a big exerciser then just talk to your primary carer about continuing a workout regime and how you need to adapt it for your different trimesters.

It's true that regular exercise can help prevent us getting sick, but what about other things that can help? This is when acupuncture and massage therapy can come into play. I always recommend regular acupuncture appointments when women are pregnant. Acupuncture is 100% safe for pregnant women and can not only support you with morning sickness and pain but it can also help you stay well. It's similar for massage, this is another great way to help aches and pains without taking any medication.

It is always worth pointing out that both acupuncture and massage can also help tip the body (if it is is ready) into a natural induction. Starting cervical ripening with acupuncture at 37 weeks might just help prevent going too overdue!
